A high-ranking Mauritanian security source announced on Saturday that 3 prisoners belonging to the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda, who had escaped for a week, were killed after a tracking operation in the north of the country.

In total, they were 4 prisoners members of the terrorist group to have managed to escape from prison by heading to the north of Mauritania. While 3 of them persisted and were killed during a security operation, a 4th surrendered to the authorities.

The source, who preferred to remain anonymous because she was not authorized to speak ahead of a statement from the Interior Ministry, said in a statement to the German Press Agency that the search and rescue operation The tracking lasted a whole week, during which the prisoners were able to leave the capital, before being tracked down and trapped in the north of the country.

These prisoners had managed to escape from a prison in Nouakchott, after killing two prison guards and injuring two others.

These prisoners, who belong to the terrorist organization al-Qaeda, are described as “dangerous” and are sentenced to death for their involvement in killings and kidnappings.
