PMMs account for 63% of volume in Q4-2022

The Moroccan Capital Market Authority (AMMC), indicated that Moroccan legal persons (PMM) represented, in the fourth quarter of 2022, 63% of the overall volume of transactions carried out on the “equities” compartment of the central market of the Casablanca Stock Exchange.

According to an AMMC report on the profile of stock market investors in Q4-2022, “the structure of stock market investors during the fourth quarter of 2022 remains marked by the weight of domestic legal entities. In the equity compartment of the central market, Moroccan legal entities account for 63% of the volume of this fourth quarter, up 24 percentage points compared to the third quarter and 11 points compared to the same period of 2021”.

Undertakings for collective investment in transferable securities (UCITS) represent 23% of the volume, down 14 percentage points compared to Q3-2022 and 5 points year-on-year. Foreign legal persons account for 7% and Moroccan natural persons represent 5%. Regarding market activity, the overall quarterly trading volume on the central and block markets stood at 26 billion dirhams (MMDH) in the fourth quarter of 2022, with almost the same share a year earlier.

Exchanges on the central market total an amount of 9.2 billion dirhams, or 35% of the overall volume, while transactions on the block market represent 65%, or 16.9 billion dirhams.

For its part, the bond market recorded during this quarter, a transactional volume of 66 million dirhams, divided between the central market (69%) and the block market (31%).

The Casablanca Stock Exchange indicators ended the fourth quarter of 2022 down. Thus, the MASI and MASI 20 indices stood at 10,720.25 and 857.43 points respectively, recording a drop compared to the previous quarter of 7.69% and 8.53%, after declines of 3.3% and 3.4% in the third quarter of 2022. Year-on-year, the two indices show a variation of -19.75% for the MASI and -21.03% for the MASI 20.
