The Kingdom’s airports welcomed 1,981,294 passengers during the month of January 2023, an increase of 6% compared to the same period of 2019, according to the National Airports Office (ONDA).
The airports of the Kingdom also recorded, during the month of January, a volume of 15,726 airport movements, i.e. a recovery rate of aircraft movements of 94%, compared to the same month of 2019, ONDA said in a statement.
For the first month of the year, Casablanca Mohammed V airport welcomed 722,402 passengers via 6,173 flights, representing a recovery rate of around 92%, compared to the same period of 2019, notes the same source. During the month of January, several airports recorded significant rates of change, compared to the traffic recorded during the same period of 2019, explains ONDA, specifying that these are the airports of Marrakech (13%), Agadir (16%), Tangier (40%) Oujda (41%), and Nador (13%).
At the same time, several airports have recorded significant recovery rates such as those of Casablanca Mohammed V (92%), Dakhla (88%), Ouarzazate (71%) and Al Hoceima (90%). In addition, the Office points out that domestic air traffic recorded 201,340 passengers during the month of January, with a recovery rate of 91% compared to the same period of 2019.
International air traffic recorded 1,779,954 passengers during the month of January, an increase of around 8% compared to the same period in 2019. The European market, which represents more than 83% of international traffic and the North America market both recorded growth rates of 13% and 32% respectively.
For their part, the traffic recorded with Africa, the Middle and Far East and the Maghreb countries recorded high recovery rates, respectively of 98%, 94% and 56%.
Air freight recorded 5,912 tonnes during the month of January, representing a recovery rate of 82%.
