Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance Abdellatif Hammouchi received FBI boss Christopher Wray on Tuesday, said a statement from the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance. This meeting expresses the priority given by the United States to its security relations with Morocco.
The two officials discussed several issues and topics of common interest between Washington and Rabat in terms of security challenges and threats posed by terrorist and extremist groups as well as transnational criminal networks.
Received in Rabat, Christopher Wray, the head of the main federal service of American judicial police and internal intelligence, with a delegation of senior security officials, was able to discuss with Abdellatif Hammouchi the mechanisms for monitoring and combating terrorist organizations at the level of border crossing points, options for the exchange of operational data related to security issues and the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the fight against threats related to chemical, biological and nuclear weapons.
This working visit by the American official follows a similar visit by the head of the DGSN-DGST to the United States last June. On the occasion, Mr. Hammouchi had held working sessions with Mr. Wray but also had talks with Avril Hainse, director of American national intelligence, William Burns, director of the CIA.
The DGST said in its press release that this visit demonstrates the importance of bilateral security cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States, which prioritizes the shared desire to consolidate regional and international security and stability. .
The leading role of the DGSN and the DGST and the efficiency of their services has strengthened cooperation with the security services of several Western countries which benefit from Moroccan expertise.
In recent months Abdellatif Hammouchi has multiplied meetings with his international counterparts. Examples include the meeting with the Commissioner General of the Israeli Police, Yaakov Shabtai and the Director General of the Spanish National Police, Francisco Pardo Piqueras last August, the meeting with the Director General of the Federal Police of Germany, Dieter Romann in June or with the Commander-in-Chief of the Abu Dhabi Police in the United Arab Emirates, Major General Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei in October and more recently with the Vice-President of State Security Saudi Arabian Abdullah Fahad Salih Al-Owais in January 2023.
