The Department of Financial Studies and Forecasts (DEPF) indicated that tourist receipts exceeded their pre-crisis level of 15.9% at the end of 2022, after a drop of 56.4% a year earlier.

In its February 2023 economic report, the DEPF specifies that in fact, the growth in tourist receipts compared to the achievements of 2019, continued to consolidate, from quarter to quarter, reaching an increase of 56.4% in Q4. , after +30.5% in Q3, +1.3% in Q2 and a decline of 38.1% in Q1-2022.

Year-on-year, these revenues increased by 166.1% at the end of 2022, instead of a decline of 5.9% the previous year, to reach 91.3 billion dirhams (MMDH), notes the same source. .

At the end of 2022, more than 19 million overnight stays were recorded, representing 75.2% of their pre-pandemic level (63% for non-resident tourists and 101% for resident tourists), instead by 36.4% at the end of 2021.

In annual variation, the volume of arrivals and overnight stays in Morocco increased respectively by 192% and 106.7% at the end of 2022.

As for overnight stays in classified accommodation establishments (EHC), their decline gradually eased to -5.9%, for the fourth quarter of 2022, after -9.8% in Q3-2022, – 29.1% in Q2-2022, -62.4% in Q1-2022 and -58.8% in Q4-2021.

In the fourth quarter of 2022, the number of arrivals to the “Morocco” destination increased by 13.9% compared to its pre-crisis level after declines of 9.4% in Q3-2022, from 12.5 % in Q2-2022, 65.4% in Q1-2022 and 67.4% in Q4-2021.

And to specify that this evolution covers an increase in the number of arrivals of MRE of 39.9% and an attenuation of the decline in that of foreign tourists (TES) to -1.4% in Q4-2022 after -13.4% in T3.
