During the weekly press briefing held at the end of the Government Council, as every Thursday that it meets under the chairmanship of the Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch, the Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament, Government Spokesperson, Mustapha Baitas took stock of intervention operations in regions that had been hit by bad weather.
Thus, in certain regions, particularly in the High Atlas, heavy rainfall has been recorded and above all heavy snowfall, which is unusual in certain places. The height of the snow sometimes reaching more than 150 cm in places, particularly in the High Atlas.
This state of affairs has had the effect of making several roads completely impassable and isolating 434,777 people in 55 local authorities. Also, on High Royal Instructions, the Executive has done everything possible to help the affected populations through emergency aid operations, following the significant temperature and snowfall that occurred from February 17 to 23, in these remote areas.
We have also worked to lift the isolation of the douars impacted by these bad weather, in particular, in the Provinces of Ouarzazate, Haouz, Taroudant, Tineghir, Midelt, Chichaoua, Tata, Goulmime, Errachidia, Zagora, Chtouka, Inezgane which depend on the Regions of Souss-Massa, Drâa Tafilalet and Marrakech-Safi.
More than 409 machines were deployed to clear snow and open up the affected regions and allow 26 medical caravans to take care of more than 16,382 people. 90 tons of drugs were also distributed during the humanitarian aid operations which saw the mobilization of several helicopters and ambulances and other emergency vehicles.
The minister also indicated, with regard to infrastructure damaged by bad weather, that power and telecommunication network breakdowns have been repaired, particularly in the provinces of Taroudant, Zagora and Ouarzazate and 100% in the province of Tineghir. The restoration in the last four douars still affected is in the process of being carried out shortly.
