Since the reconciliation between Madrid and Rabat, Spanish arms exports have multiplied during the first half of 2022, acquisitions, for their part, have reached a total value of 30 million.

Spanish arms exports to Morocco have not stopped in the first half of 2022, say Iberian media, which relied on data from the report drawn up by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism . During this period, the Spanish government has approved four licenses for the export of any defense and dual-use product, for a total value of 30 million euros.

The report designed by the Spanish Ministry on exports of defense products throughout the first half of 2022 reveals that 1,181 licenses were approved for the sale of armaments, which generated revenues of 4,192 million euros for the industry Spanish. This list includes in particular the four licenses approved by the Iberian executive for the export of armament material worth 30 million euros to Morocco. In addition, it is clarified that all stock was for the Moroccan armed forces, noting that other end users, such as police forces, would also be possible.

Recall that Spain exported defense equipment to Morocco in 2021 for a total value of 12.5 million euros. The sales, all intended for the armed forces, were divided between mortar shells, explosives, detonators and spare parts for vehicles and aircraft. In general, sales of arms and other military equipment in Morocco have experienced a marked increase from 2014, when they amounted to more than 9.7 million, and this has remained more or less sustained since, with some peaks like in 2016, when it increased to more than 30.2 million, including 22.2 million in ammunition and devices and 7.7 million in bombs, torpedoes, rockets and missiles.

However, over the entire period in which the Spanish Ministry was able to collect and share the data, 2008 was the year with the highest turnover, with more than 113.9 million euros, exclusively linked to the supply of land vehicles.

Between 2016 and 2019, sales were around 80 million euros. In 2019, the total amount was 23.24 million euros, of which more than 13.2 in ammunition and 8.5 in bombs, torpedoes and others. Acquisitions also correspond to land vehicles which were supplied for 1.34 million euros.

According to the same reports, it seems that Spain sold arms and military equipment to Morocco for more than 385 million euros between 1991 and 2020, of which almost half corresponds to the supply of land vehicles

This amount represents the 165 million euros devoted to military land vehicles, 98 million euros in ammunition and military equipment while the missiles, bombs and torpedoes, were around 34 million euros. Spain sold the Royal Armed Forces drones for 10 million euros, equipment for 6.6 million euros, as well as energy supplies and related materials, 12.7 caliber weapons , electronic equipment as well as armored or protective equipment.
