The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, met this Monday, February 20, 2023 in Rabat, with Axel Van Trotsenburg, Director General of Operations at the World Bank, who was accompanied by Farid Belhaj, Vice-President of the World Bank for the Middle East and North Africa.
The meeting was an opportunity to salute the cooperation relations between Morocco and the World Bank Group, and to examine the prospects and means of strengthening the strategic partnership between the two parties. The meeting also allowed to review the structural reforms initiated by the government, in accordance with the high royal directives.
The Head of Government hailed the World Bank’s efforts to support development and modernization projects in the Kingdom, particularly highly strategic projects, such as the generalization of social protection, public sector reform, and continued implementation of sector strategies.
Aziz Akhannouch also reiterated Morocco’s pride in hosting, in 2023, the meetings of the annual assemblies of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, which will be organized in Marrakech, noting that these events will be an opportunity to bring together again the worlds of economy and finance on African soil, half a century after they were last held.
