Akhannouch meets with the Federal Chancellor of Austria

The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch received, this Tuesday, February 28, the Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria, Karl Nehammer, currently on a working visit to Morocco on the sidelines of the Morocco-Austria economic forum.

During this meeting, which took place in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, the two parties emphasized the quality of the fraternal relations which unite the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Austria, and which benefit from the particular concern of King Mohammed VI and the Austrian President, Alexander Van der Bellen, underlines the department of the Head of Government.

They also expressed their pride in the centuries-old historical relations between the two countries, this visit coinciding with the commemoration of the 240th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Austria.

On this occasion, it is added, the Austrian ambassador in Rabat, Anna Jankovic, presented the Head of Government with two commemorative paintings illustrating the seniority of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The meeting was also an opportunity for both parties to highlight the importance of the Morocco-Austria economic forum, which is being held from February 27 to March 1 in Morocco, which offers the opportunity to strengthen economic cooperation through the signing of a bilateral agreement between the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) and the Austrian Economic Chamber.

The two officials also expressed their satisfaction with the development of trade between Rabat and Vienna and the development of Austrian investments in Morocco in recent years.

While emphasizing the fruitful industrial cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the automotive sector, they reiterated the desire to exchange expertise and develop joint projects in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energies.

The talks were also an opportunity to discuss issues of common interest, in particular the question of the Moroccan Sahara, parliamentary cooperation, immigration, the security aspect and judicial and cultural cooperation.

It should be recalled that the Federal Chancellor of Austria arrived in Morocco on Monday, accompanied by a large delegation of businessmen, for a visit which is part of the celebration, on February 28, 2023, of the 240th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Rabat and Vienna.

This visit will be sanctioned by a joint declaration between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Austria, which reinforces the positive dynamics of bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
