A ship from Uruguay ran aground off Marina Smir on Saturday, local authorities in M’diq-Fnideq announced.
The stranded commercial vessel was due to go to Lebanon according to the same sources who reported having rescued 8 crew members.
A search is currently being carried out to find a missing person who was on the boat.
The boat ran aground due to engine failure and unfavorable sailing conditions which caused the boat to drift.
Significant logistical and human resources were mobilized to assist the boat and intervene.
The rescue and intervention teams equipped with a military helicopter, immediately intervened to rescue the people on board but also to protect the coast from pollution in anticipation of possible fuel leaks from the fuel tank.
