UN: 32 peacekeepers killed in deliberate attacks in 2022

The United Nations organization said that at least 32 UN peacekeeping personnel lost their lives in deliberate attacks in 2022.

Among these victims are 28 soldiers and four police officers including a woman, deplored the Standing Committee on the Security and Independence of the International Civil Service of the UN Staff Union.

For the ninth consecutive year, the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) was the deadliest with 14 peacekeepers killed, followed by the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), with 13 dead, said the same source quoted by the UN press service.

In third and fourth place respectively come the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), with 4 dead, and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), with 1 dead.

According to the Committee, in 12 years, the death toll now stands at at least 494 deaths among United Nations personnel and associated personnel.
