The middle of the black togas in deep disagreement

The scandal affecting the written examination for access to the profession of lawyer, and involving the Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi and his department, continues to arouse reactions on both sides. That said, the body of lawyers does not seem to agree on the whole line. Some defend the minister and his department against any ” nepotism » Where ” favoritism »others call for the cancellation of the results of the examination and the organization of a new competition.

Initially, the Bar Association of Morocco (ABM) denounced the ” unwarranted reactions that exceed the bounds of the legitimate right to protest, and deviate from possible legal and administrative avenues, to harm, abuse and defame successful candidates and their families, as well as the relevant institutions governing the examination”.

In a press release, published at the end of an emergency meeting held on Friday on this subject and where the ABM seems to have chosen its camp well, the Association denounced and refused “toe take advantage of the aptitude test for the practice of the legal profession, to relaunch the campaign to target the legal profession and the pursuit of gratuitous accusations against professional institutions while calling into question their credibility ».

At the same time, the National Syndicate of Justice also held an emergency meeting on Saturday evening, after the appeal by the Syndicate of Lawyers of Morocco to retake the written examination for access to the profession of lawyer, justifying its position by the reports that have circulated widely in the media that the aforementioned exam questions were leaked, in addition to the ” fraudulent operations that certain examination centers have experienced”.

Following his ” accusations »the National Syndicate of Justice was quick to confirm that “ there was no leakage or fraud during the period of the written exam”noting that “ if there was anything the aforementioned union was claiming, the number of successful candidates would have been at least half of the candidates who passed the exam”.

Affiliated to the Democratic Confederation of Labor (CDT), the National Union of Justice explained that the success rate in the written examination for access to the profession of lawyer (2% of the total number of candidates), confirms according to him,“that there is no leakage or cheating”.

In this sense, the National Union of Justice defended until the end the employees who took part in the monitoring of candidates for the bar exam, by decision of the Ministry of Justice, considering that it is “of the most honorable and cleanest actors in the judicial establishment “.

For its part, the Moroccan Bar Association also reacted to this scandal via a press release, stating that “what circulates in the media concerning the leak of the written examination for access to the legal profession, and the fraud operations experienced by certain examination centers, is documented, published and widely disseminated on the networks social », also calling for the cancellation of the results of the examination and the organization of a new competition.

A reaction which was not to the liking of the National Union of Justice which criticized the position of the Bar Association by accusing it of making magistrates of justice “a scapegoat to get out of the exam crisis “, expressing his condemnation “to all those who accuse law enforcement officials of leaking and facilitating fraud in the aforementioned review.

The different positions expressed clearly show the absence of a unified position in the middle of the black togas concerning the results of the written examination for access to the profession of lawyer.

Moreover, public opinion is still awaiting the famous explanations of Abdellatif Ouahbi concerning this scandal.
