More than 1.5 MT of fishing landings in 2022

The National Fisheries Office (ONP) reported that landings of marketed coastal and artisanal fishing products exceeded 1.5 million tonnes (MT) in 2022, up 13% compared to 2021.

In its recent report on coastal and artisanal fishing statistics in Morocco, the ONP also indicates that the value of these landings exceeded 9.7 billion dirhams (MMDH), up 7% compared to 2021.

By species, notes the same source, landings of shellfish, pelagic fish and crustaceans showed respective increases of 18% to 1,232 T, 17% to more than 1.3 MT and 1% to 6,832 T.

On the other hand, seaweed, cephalopods and white fish saw their landings fall by 42% to 11,849 T, 12% to 60,461 T and 4% to 83,081 T. By port, a total of 18,318 T of coastal fishing products and artisanal was landed in Mediterranean port entries in 2022, down 6%. In terms of value, these ports recorded a decline of 11% to 611.16 million dirhams (MDH).

For their part, landings at the ports located on the Atlantic increased, in volume, by 14% to 1,492,949 T and in value by 8% to more than 9 billion dirhams.
