Holy Quran memorization competition in Dakar

The Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema (FM6OA), Senegal Section, organized, on Saturday in Dakar, the 4th edition of the National Competition for memorization and recitation of the Holy Quran with the participation of 25 candidates.

The jury made up of members of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ouléma, Senegal section, selected the finalists from the various religious centers of the country, in three categories, namely the complete memorization of the Holy Quran according to Riwayat warch, the memorization of the entirety of the Holy Quran according to Rwiyat chosen by the candidate and the memorization of five Hizb.

At the end of this competition, hosted on Saturday by the Center for Studies, Research and Training in Islam (CERFI) in the Senegalese capital, three candidates distinguished themselves respectively in the categories of complete memorization of the Holy Quran, memorization complete Holy Quran according to Riwayat Warch and memorization of five hizb. The winners of the three categories of the competition will participate in the final phase of the competition to be held during the month of Ramadan.

The prizes of the three laureates were presented by the Moroccan ambassador in Dakar, Hassan Naciri, during a ceremony held in the presence of members of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, Senegal Section, religious dignitaries and several guests.

Testifying to the benevolence that King Mohammed VI, President of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema, grants to the Holy Quran, it was included among the recommendations of the Higher Council of the Foundation, which was held in Fez during its second session in 2018, the organization of a competition for memorization, recitation and psalmody of the Holy Quran, open to all sections of the Foundation on the African continent.

One of the objectives of this Prize is to encourage African Muslim children and young people to take an interest in the Holy Quran, to memorize it, declaim it and chant it; but also to encourage mastery of the memorization of the Holy Quran with the application of the rules of psalmody.

As a reminder, the General Secretariat of the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Ulema organizes, in coordination with all its sections in Africa, the preselections of the fourth edition of the competition for memorization, recitation and psalmody of the Holy Quran.

At the end of these preselections which take place at the level of the 34 member sections of the Foundation, during the month of Jumada II 1444H / January 2023, a winner will be designated in each of the three categories of the competition, namely: The memorization of the entirety of the Holy Quran with the recitation according to the reading Warch an Nafiâ; memorization of the entire Holy Quran with recitation according to the reading chosen by the candidate and psalmody (Tajwid) with memorization of at least five Hizbs of the Holy Quran.

The winners of the three categories of the competition will participate in the final phase of the competition to be held during the holy month of Ramadan.
