Gare du Nord assault suspect taken into custody for attempted murder

The suspect of the stabbing attack at the Gare du Nord on Wednesday morning in Paris was taken into custody for attempted murder, local media reported Thursday, citing the capital’s prosecutor’s office.

The state of health of the assailant, who was shot by police, was deemed compatible with such a measure, according to the prosecution, adding that his identity is still being checked.

The custody of the suspect takes place in the hospital, where he is still after having suffered three shots from the police, and could continue until Friday evening, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office.

Under an obligation to leave French territory (OQTF) issued in the summer of 2022, the respondent injured six people, including a police officer, before being neutralized.

The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, who had moved to the scene of the events, had declared to the press on Wednesday that the vital prognosis of the assailant was engaged.
