Football: Benzema, Real Madrid's second historic scorer in La Liga

Real Madrid’s French striker Karim Benzema has become the second top scorer in the history of the capital club in the Spanish football league.

The Frenchman, author of the opener of the score with a volley on Sunday during the victory of the Whites against Bilbao (0-2), has 228 goals in the league, the same total as Raúl Gonzalez Blanco between 1994 and 2010.

He is now second only to Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored 312 goals with Real Madrid in La Liga.

Benzema, who has 9 goals this season in La Liga, scored for the first time as a Real Madrid player on Matchday 3 of the 2009/10 season against Xerez.

Since then, he has won everything with the Madrid club. His record is made up of 23 titles: 5 Champions Leagues, 4 Club World Cups, 4 European Super Cups, 4 Liga, 2 King’s Cups and 4 Spanish Super Cups.
