BAM: The national network had 5,808 counters in H1-2022

Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM) indicated that the number of bank branches in Morocco stood at 5,808 at the end of June 2022, against 5,880 at the end of December 2021.

In its recent dashboard of the banking system, the Central Bank specifies that the number of inhabitants per counter was 6,283 for the first six months of 2022, against 6,176 at the end of 2021.

As for the structure of the banking system, BAM reports the existence of a total of 89 credit and similar institutions including 24 banks (with 5 participating banks and 3 participating windows), 28 finance companies, 6 offshore banks, 11 microcredit associations and 18 payment institutions.

With regard to the concentration of banks according to the status of shareholders, data from Bank Al-Maghrib reveal a pre-eminence of banks with majority Moroccan private capital. These hold 53.4% ​​of counters, 63.2% of assets, 64.4% of deposits and 60.6% of loans.

On the other hand, the analysis of the structure of deposits shows a predominance of credit current accounts which represent 68.6% followed by savings accounts (16.3%) and term deposits (12.2% ).

With regard to activity and profitability, Bank Al-Maghrib reports a total balance sheet of 1,631 billion dirhams (MMDH) up 5.8% compared to June 2021, an accumulation of deposits customers of 1,081 billion dirhams (+4.6%) and net banking income (NBI) of 27.8 billion dirhams.
