Automotive: 5.9% drop in Renault Group global sales in 2022

Renault Group’s global sales amounted to more than 2 million units in 2022, down 5.9%, the French automaker said.

The share of sales to individuals represents 67% in the five main European countries (France, Germany, Spain, Italy, United Kingdom), up 8.7 points compared to 2021, the group said in a press release.

The Group’s order book in Europe remains at a record level of 3.5 months of sales as of December 31, 2022, adds the same source, specifying that in Europe, the Renault brand is on the electrification podium and becomes the 3rd brand in the electrified market (VP market) with 12% growth compared to 2021 and the 3rd brand in the 100% electric market.

Renault is improving its sales mix with more than one in two sales to individuals (+8 points compared to 2021) while Renault’s sales in the C segment also increased by 21% compared to 2021.

Outside Europe, Renault is reaffirming its positions and increasing its presence in its key markets: Turkey (+22.6% vs 2021), Morocco (+11.4% vs 2021) and Latin America (+8% vs 2021), notes the same source.

According to the press release, Dacia recorded 573,800 sales in 2022, i.e. 6.8% growth compared to 2021, confirming its 3rd place on the European podium for sales to private customers with a record market share of 7.6%.

This success is driven in particular by the 4 models renewed with the new brand identity, namely Sandero (1st vehicle sold to individuals in Europe since 2017), Duster (2nd vehicle sold to individuals in Europe and 1st SUV sold to individuals since 2018) , Jogger for its first year on the market (2nd vehicle in the C segment (excluding SUV) sold to individuals in Europe and Spring (3rd electric vehicle sold to individuals in Europe).

“Renault Group is pursuing its commercial strategy geared towards creating value, which leads to an increase in the share of its sales on the most profitable channels”, notes the press release.

The Renault group is one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the world. It has been linked to Japanese manufacturers Nissan since 1999 and Mitsubishi since 2017.
