Yassine Bounou in the running for the FIFA trophy for best goalkeeper in the world

Atlas Lions goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, an insurmountable bulwark of our Moroccan national football team and Spanish club Sevilla, is on the nominated list for the 2023 World’s Best Goalkeeper Award.

Indeed, on Thursday, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) unveiled the seven best goalkeepers in the world, who will compete for the prize for the best goalkeeper. Unsurprisingly, Yassine Bounou is on the list for the next Best FIFA Football Awards scheduled for February 27, 2023, indicates the Fifa.

In addition to the Sevilla FC goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, the goalkeeper of the Argentine national team and Aston Villa, already crowned with the Golden Glove award (Golden Glove) will enter the competition thanks to his effective contribution to the crowning of the world title during the Albiceleste epic of ‘Qatar 2022. The list also includes the Brazilian Alisson, the Belgian of Real Madrid Thibaut Courtois, the Croatian Dominic Levakovic, the Frenchman Mike Minan (AC Milan) and the German Manuel Neuer of the Bayern Munich.

The Best FIFA Football Awards, will be presented in recognition of achievements from August 8, 2021 to December 18, 2022. It was Senegalese Edouard Mendy, Chelsea goalkeeper, who won the award last year, after his brilliance with the “Blues” in the Champions League (UEFA) and the “Teranga Lions” at CAN 2022.

Although the favorite for this award, the Argentinian Emiliano Martinez will have serious competitors, in particular, through Yassine Bouno, crowned best goalkeeper in La Liga 2022 (Zamora Trophy) and the first African goalkeeper to score a clean sheet in three matches of the same edition of the World Cup, the Belgian and winner of the Yachine 2022 trophy, Thibaut Courtois and the Croatian Dominik Livakovic, who shone at the 2022 World Cup.

FIFA also mentions German legend Manuel Neuer, Frenchman Mike Maignan of AC Milan and Alisson, described by J├╝rgen Klopp (his coach at Liverpool) as the best goalkeeper in the world. The goalkeeper of Sevilla FC and the Atlas Lions, Yassine Bounou, for his part, was elected this season’s best goalkeeper in the Spanish championship, thus becoming the first goalkeeper from the FC Sevilla club to win this trophy, the first keeper Arab to achieve this feat and the second African goalkeeper to offer himself this distinction after the Cameroonian Jacques Songo’o crowned during the 1996-1997 season with Deportivo La Corogne.

During this same season, Yassine Bounou was elected by thousands of fans African MVP of the Spanish championship, best African player in particular ahead of the Gabonese international who played for FC Barcelona Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the Villarreal duo composed of the winger Nigerian Samuel Chukwueze and Senegalese striker Boulaye Dia, and Central African midfielder Atletico Madrid Geoffrey Kondogbia.

Adil Rami, the 2018 world champion, irritated by the obscene gesture that Emiliano Martinez had at the end of the match during the World Cup final in Qatar, posted a photo of Yassine Bounou on his Twitter account explaining that he was the one who deserved the “Golden Gloves”.
