Transport: Government aid only covers 30% of professionals' needs

Given the current situation marked by the continued rise in fuel prices, the government has decided to renew its aid, in its 8th installment, to the transport sector, which was among the most affected by this increase. However, this does not seem to be enough to solve all the problems of the professionals who plan, once again, to go to the escalation.

The government spokesman, Mustapha Baitas, announced last Wednesday the renewal of the aid granted to the transport sector in order to cope with the increase in fuel prices. However, some professionals have still not benefited from the first tranches nor from the very last following the blockages emanating from circular n°750.

In this regard, MoroccoLatestNews UK asked the deputy secretary general of the taxi sector at the National Union of Labor in Morocco (UNTM), Mohamed faddewho explained what these blockages consist of and what the unions are considering to put an end to what they call the “miseries of professionals”.

The unions will organize a general meeting next month to discuss the consequences of circular n°750 and its impact on professionals who do not receive government aid“, clarified our interlocutor.

And to detail: This circular is one of the problems that prompted us to organize the GA. The two previous circulars, 336 and 444, were considered by professionals as a step forward and a reinforcement of the sense of professionalism in which we had a role“.

” NOTWe were 5 unions to lead the discussions with the Ministry of the Interior, especially dedicated to the adoption of these two circulars, except that after three months, the ministry brought out the 750 and retracted in relation to to the first two“, continues the trade unionist.

It makes it known in the sense that thehe circular n°750 stipulates that any approval whose owner is deceased will be withdrawn if, on the one hand, there is no entitled person or if the latter does not meet the criteria to benefit from this approval, noting that the vehicle will also be withdrawn from the user since he will no longer have the right to drive with it.

This means that the tenant who has paid his installments according to the contract he signed with the owner will lose. This is why we protest, the user must at least have the right to continue his exercise until the end of the period of his contract“, argues the VSG.

The question has been raised many times to the authorities concerned through correspondence without any response from them, but in vain, he laments.

This is the reason why we saw ourselves obliged to hold an AG on a national scale which will take place on January 8 in Casablanca. The purpose of this meeting is to take stock of the basics and the rules in order to be able to decide what we are going to do next. There will probably be demonstrations or strikes, but it will be the members who will make this decision“, adds Fadde.

As for inflation in fuel prices, the Deputy Secretary General at the UNTM recalls the strike that the sector led in March and which resulted in the establishment of government aid to support professionals.

“This aid is not paid monthly since we did not receive it for certain months“, he says, while insisting that “ this support was based, when it was launched, on fuel prices which did not exceed 12 dh/l at the start of the crisis, which means that the share granted to us, i.e. 1,600 dh for small taxis and 2,200 dh for large taxis, was relative to this threshold and not to the current prices which vary between 15 and 17 dh/l. That said, this aid is not sufficient, it only covers 30% of consumption“.

Our interlocutor also mentioned the problem of operating the vehicle, which is often in the professional’s name following the signing of a legal or customary contract. However, he confirms that this category did not benefit from the 7th installment, and it will not benefit from the 8th either since the government only relies on the standard contract.

On the other hand, he notes, we were deprived of the advantage of the RIB and imposed that the owner make the request directly by himself. This means that more than 15,000 users will not benefit from either the 7th or the 8th installment. And these are the problems that we really encounter“.
