Signature of the agreement for industrial access to electricity from renewable sources

The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, chaired, Thursday, December 1, 2022 in Rabat, the signing ceremony of an agreement between the government and the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) relating to the industrialists’ access to electricity from renewable sources.

In accordance with the High Directives of King Mohammed VI, Morocco is consolidating its progress in the development of renewable energies as a national priority in order to strengthen its energy sovereignty and position itself in the low-carbon economy with the aim of attracting more investment. nationals and foreigners in the sector.

This agreement is therefore part of the decarbonization of national industry which aims to reduce the carbon footprint through access to electricity from renewable sources, thus offering industrial companies an essential lever of competitiveness and strengthening the positioning of the Kingdom of Morocco as a regional hub of competitive and green industrial production.

The availability of this carbon-free and competitive energy is essential today in order to open up new prospects for investment in energy-intensive activities that the Kingdom wishes to locate and develop new industrial professions.

The terms of this agreement revolve around the commitment of the signatory parties to set the conditions and methods allowing manufacturers to benefit from electrical energy at competitive prices, with a view to increasing their competitiveness and this, through their supply from means of production of electricity from renewable sources authorized under law 13-09.

The agreement was signed by Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of the Interior, Ryad Mezzour, Minister of Industry and Trade, Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development and Abderrahim El Hafidi, Director General of the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water.
