Morocco will boycott CHAN in Algeria if the conditions are not respected by the host country

Morocco threatens to boycott the next African Nations Championship (CHAN) to be held in Algeria from January 13 to February 4, 2023 if the specifications of the competition are not respected.

After the misadventures of Moroccans in recent months during international events organized on Algerian soil, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) no longer intends to close its eyes.

Ahead of the competition this time, the president of the Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, indicated during the meeting of the Steering Committee of the body, that Morocco will not take part in the African Nations Championship organized in Algeria. only on condition that the specifications are respected.

As such, the reception of the participating teams is an essential condition for the FRMF which requires that the national team under 23 can go to Constantine by a direct flight from Rabat on board a Royal Air Maroc plane. (RAM).

Fouzi Lekjaa explained that the FRMF Steering Committee demanded this measure and that the FRMF sent correspondence to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) so that the latter enforced the specifications of the competition.

As a reminder, Algeria has severed its diplomatic relations with Morocco and closed its airspace to all planes registered in Morocco, pushing Moroccan teams to make a detour via Tunisia to reach Algeria.

Moroccan sports journalists who came to cover events such as the Mediterranean Games – but also journalists covering the Arab Summit organized in Algiers – were banned from entering Algeria upon their arrival at the airport and after spending several hours stranded.
