Le Bleu du Caftan retained in "Short-list" for the Oscar for best foreign film

Le Bleu du Caftan by Maryam Touzani has been shortlisted this year for the Oscar for best foreign film, announced the Academy Awards, which revealed the 15 films selected in this category, among the 93 which would initially compete. .

Maryam Touzani’s film is the only Arab and African film selected this year for this prestigious Oscar competition in Hollywood, recall its initiators.

Last September, The Blue of the Caftan had been chosen by a commission made up of Moroccan film professionals to represent the Kingdom at the Oscars.

The Moroccan director, Maryam Touzani, said to herself “Immensely happy with this news and honored to be able to represent Morocco”.

For his part, Nabil Ayouch, her husband and producer of her film, felt that it was there “an additional step that Moroccan cinema has taken in terms of international recognition. We thank all those who believed in the film, the Ministry of Culture, the CCM, the commission of the aid fund as well as the members of the Oscar commission who chose the film to represent our country”.

It has been sold in around thirty territories and has won 21 prizes to date, including the jury prize ex-aequo at the Marrakech international film festival, where for the first time a Moroccan film won a prize linked to the on stage.

The Blue of the Caftan is produced by Nabil Ayouch and co-produced by Amine Benjelloun. In the casting, we find Saleh Bakri, Lubna Azabal and Ayoub Missioui.

The film tells the story of Halim and Mina, a couple running a Caftan shop in the medina of Salé, joined by Youssef, a young apprentice who shares with his maalem, Halim, the same sincere passion for sewing. The film speaks of transmission, tradition and love.
