In 2022, the Amazigh language gains ground

The year 2022 will have been marked by notable progress made on the path to the officialization of the Amazigh language in ministerial departments and other institutions, in addition to the support of activities and initiatives intended to enhance and preserve this cultural and civilizational heritage.

In 2022, the government has, in fact, mobilized the human, financial and logistical resources necessary for the materialization of the provisions of Organic Law No. 26-16 relating to the implementation of the official character of the Amazigh language, given that its integration in the priority areas of public life is one of the commitments of the executive.

Thus, the Ministry of Justice and the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture (IRCAM) signed an agreement defining the framework of their cooperation and coordination in favor of the integration of the Amazigh language in the field of justice.

Similarly, the Minister Delegate for Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Ghita Mezzour signed a circular on the integration of the Amazigh language in public administrations, with the aim of allowing citizens access easy and equal to public services, in accordance with the High Royal Guidelines and also in application of the provisions of the Constitution.

The circular recommends the adoption of the Amazigh language and its inclusion in each of the call centers and reception and orientation structures and on the official websites of public administrations, as well as in communications and press releases intended for the public, in addition means of transport that provide public services or are affiliated with public administrations.

On this register, the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Mohamed Sadiki and the Rector of IRCAM, Ahmed Boukous signed a partnership agreement on May 6 providing for the implementation of the official character of the Amazigh language.

This agreement, which illustrates the commitment of government departments in favor of the officialization of the Amazigh language, aims in particular to promote better communication with Amazigh farmers and generally allow citizens to access public services on the same footing.

In the same vein, the House of Representatives adopted simultaneous translation in Arabic and Amazigh during the weekly plenary sessions, devoted to oral questions and the monthly plenary session devoted to oral questions addressed to the head of government. Objective: to enable Amazigh populations to follow parliamentary debates with a national, regional and local scope.

To this, it should be noted that the year 2022 was marked by a rich cultural and artistic program initiated by the Royal Institute of Amazigh Culture as in previous years.

The year 2022 was therefore a year placed under the sign of the continuation of efforts to promote the Amazigh language, an essential component of Moroccan identity, and its integration in education and in the various priority sectors of public life as set out in Law No. 26-16 setting the stages for the implementation of the official character of the Amazigh language.
