Colona on December 14 and 15 in Rabat

After several ” rumors ” and ” statements on a possible visit by French President Emmanuel Macron, in Morocco last October, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Catherine Colonna, plans to go to the Kingdom on December 15 and 16, to prepare for an official visit by the President, but also to discuss several “hot” issues, including that of Visas .

Indeed, the Quai d’Orsay, quoted by AFP, announced a visit by French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, who will travel to Rabat on December 15 and 16 to discuss the thorny issue of visas, but also President Emmanuel Macron’s planned visit in January.

The minister will arrive on the evening of the 15th and will have an interview the next day with her counterpart Nasser Bourita“said a spokeswoman, who stressed that both parties “will discuss all the subjects of the bilateral relationship“. She notably cited the visa file, noting that at the end of this bilateral meeting, a press conference is planned.

Moreover, the spokeswoman did not specify whether the Sahara issue would be discussed during this trip.

In September 2021, Paris had decided to halve the entry permits granted to Moroccans, arguing the Kingdom’s “reluctance” to readmit its nationals in an irregular situation in France.

This measure, which has been poisoning Morocco-France relations for a year, has been described as “unjustified » by Rabat, from »humiliating by humanitarian NGOs and great clumsiness in French-speaking Moroccan circles.

A sign that relations seem to be on the way to appeasement between Morocco and France, after several months of vacation, a new French ambassador has been appointed to replace Hélène Le Gal who left her post at the end of September, after a mandate three years at the head of the tricolor diplomatic representation in the Kingdom.

This is the current director general of Business France, Christophe Lecourtier, who received approval from the Moroccan authorities on Tuesday.
