Aliou Cissé "does not understand" the goals conceded against England

Senegal was eliminated on Sunday from the Qatar 2022 World Cup, after their defeat in the 8th round against England (3-0). Teranga Lions coach Aliou Cissé said he “did not understand” the goals conceded during this meeting.

In a statement relayed by the Senegalese news agency APS, Cissé indicated that it “is surprising to concede three goals, because usually, we do not concede many goals. It is inexplicable to concede three goals in this match”.

According to the Senegalese coach, it is not a “system problem”, because until then, the strength of the Senegalese national team has always resided in its “defensive base”.

“This first goal five minutes from half-time, the second which weighs us down and the third which takes us out of the game. We did not expect to take three goals against the English,” he said, noting that the first 30 minutes of the Senegalese performance were still “interesting”.

However, he continued, “we came across a very good English team. There are no excuses. We had two or three boys who could have helped us, but there is no difference. I think it’s not at the level of the state of mind.

In contract with the Senegalese federation (FSF) until 2024, Cissé refused to discuss his future with the Lions of Teranga. “My future, I don’t want to talk about now. For the moment, I am coach of Senegal,” he said.

Note that Cissé has been at the head of the selection since 2015, and after winning the CAN in February 2022, he had been extended for two more years.
