Verstappen wins Abu Dhabi GP, Leclerc vice-champion

The reigning double world champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull) ended a season of domination with a new victory, Sunday in Abu Dhabi, ahead of Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) who saves the honorary title of vice-world champion of Formula 1.

Sergio Pérez (Red Bull), third on Sunday, ends the season in third place behind Leclerc. Ferrari also retains its second place, behind the untouchable Red Bull, in the constructors’ championship ahead of Mercedes at the end of this 22nd and final round.

Ferrari also maintains its second place, behind Red Bull, in the constructors’ championship and ahead of Mercedes at the end of this last round.

It was the 199th and very last Grand Prix of the quadruple German champion (2010-2013) Sebastian Vettel, who is bowing out after a 10th place on Sunday and 12th in the world.

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) had to abandon this last Grand Prix due to a mechanical problem. For the first time in his career, he finished a year without a win or pole position, and outside the world top 5 (6th).

Red Bull ends an extraordinary year with a victory for its champion, the 15th this season, but with a small strategic error for Pérez, who failed to offer the team the first double in the drivers’ world championship in its history.
