The terms of the grant will be communicated later.

The Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development (MTEDD) and the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) launched this week an original experiment to encourage energy saving.

According to the MTEDD, this experiment consists of encouraging end consumers to optimize their electricity consumption during the months of November and December 2022. Consumers who have made savings in electrical energy, compared to the same period of the year 2021, will benefit in 2023, from a bonus which varies in proportion to the savings made, announced Wednesday the department of Leila Benali.

During the press briefing following the Council of Government, held this Thursday, November 3, the government spokesperson, Mustapha Baitas, was questioned about the nature of this bonus from which end consumers who have made savings on their electricity bill will benefit. ‘energy.

The bonus will be given in the form of energy volume”that is to say in quantity of energy, explained the Minister.

And to specify: “All those who have a meter, namely households and even companies, and who have achieved energy savings, which must be proven, over the two months of November and December 2022, compared with the same period of 2021 , will benefit from a bonus which will be granted on the volume of energy”.

Afterwards, how will this bonus be given to consumers and the measures to be followed, the government spokesperson indicated that the minister concerned by the sector, Leila Benali in this case, will have to give clarifications on this subject. later.

It should be recalled that the MTEDD press release explained in the press release announcing this bonus that “to Like other countries, the surge in the price of energy raw materials at the international level has had an upward impact on our national energy bill, which is more than 90% dependent on the import of energy needs, despite the renewable production capacities entered in service in recent years “.

According to data provided by ONEE and put forward by the ministry, final electricity consumption at the national level during the period from November to December 2021, all voltages included, is around 5.5TWh.

If this experience saves at least 5% compared to 2021, then the energy saved during the period of the aforementioned two months would be equivalent to the consumption of a city like Tangier during the same period (i.e. approximately 275 GWh) , it is underlined.

Beyond the expected savings, this original experience will also, according to the ministry, inculcate a certain culture of energy efficiency, but also develop a spirit of solidarity and national commitment in this area.
