A Royal Armed Forces patrol foiled an attempt to smuggle ammunition from Algeria. Indeed, MoroccoLatestNews has learned that a combined patrol of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) responsible for protecting the eastern borders of the Kingdom arrested, in the early hours of Monday morning, an irregular immigrant of Sudanese nationality, aged about 18 years old.
This operation thus foiled an attempt to smuggle military ammunition from Algerian territory to Morocco.
The individual was apprehended at the “Ras Zokar” border checkpoint in the rural commune of “Ras Asfour” fifteen kilometers from the city of Oujda.
Our sources indicated that the said patrol discovered that the illegal immigrant from Algeria had in his possession live ammunition (about thirty “cartridges” not to be repetitive of “bullets” packed in a Kalashnikov magazine , as well as three rubber bullets), upon his arrival from Algerian soil.
Our sources indicated that the Royal Gendarmerie as well as the various competent security services immediately began an investigation to find out the ins and outs of this affair and to determine the source of the ammunition seized and what was the purpose of this attempt to smuggling which, let us remember, comes straight from Algerian territory.
The inquisitions should also focus on the links of this affair with organized criminal networks which are active in collectively and violently organizing illegal immigration in this region of the Kingdom.
