The epidemiological situation is stable and does not require the tightening of measures

While the Ministry of Health and Social Protection has warned of a fifth wave of massive spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, with the dominant mutant Omicron, government spokesman Mustapha Baitas reassures citizens .

Indeed, during the press briefing organized this Thursday at the end of the Government Council, Mustapha Baitas, government spokesperson, was questioned on the lifting of the state of health emergency, or even if the government is going to lead to the tightening of restrictive measures due to the increase in the number of Covid-19 infections.

In response to this question, Baitas indicated that the epidemiological situation in our country is stable, and is not worrying.

It is true that we sometimes observe overruns. Sometimes it goes up, other times it goes down. During the adoption of the draft decree extending the duration of the state of health emergency, there was a long debate on this subject. The general orientation was that as long as the epidemiological situation is good, there is no reason to go in the direction of tougher measures.“, reassured Mustapha Baitas.

That said, the government is closely monitoring the epidemiological situation, the government official clarified, noting that all measures that need to be taken to protect citizens and the national economy will be taken.

During the presentation of monthly report of the epidemiological situation linked to Covid-19 in Morocco, the coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations at the MS, Dr Mouad Mrabet, reported on an intermediate period which lasted 3 months and which was characterized by a very low spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

That said, and after that period, the level of spread of the virus started to increase again as expected, Dr Mrabet pointed out in his monthly statement.

Thus, the official at MS pointed out that the weekly positivity rate increased significantly to 2.1% last week (from November 1 to 7), while it was stable at less than 1% for more than two months, said the official at the Ministry of Health.

These two indicators indicate that we are entering a very likely fifth wave of massive spread of the virus. We will have more visibility at the end of this weeksaid Dr. Mrabet.
