The services of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) affirmed, on Friday in Rabat, that the gradual decompensation of certain products would make it possible to move towards targeting the precarious population and therefore ensure the effectiveness of social programs.
Speaking at a press conference held at the end of a consultation mission with Morocco, the IMF team recalled that the government plans to move towards direct targeting of the precarious population, welcoming in this sense “this orientation that would ensure the effectiveness of social programs”. They also underlined that strengthening the resilience of the Moroccan economy in a context of limited fiscal and monetary room for maneuver and exceptional uncertainty calls for the acceleration of the implementation of structural reforms.
In this sense, IMF officials specified that “significant progress” has been made in the extension of social protection, in addition to in-depth reforms of the health and education systems which should improve access to services, as well as as their efficiency and quality. During this consultation mission with the Moroccan authorities, held from October 24 to November 04, 2022, interviews were held with senior government officials, Bank Al-Maghrib, as well as with representatives of the public and private sectors.
