Several dead in Sunday fire in Moscow

At least five people died in a fire Sunday at a warehouse in central Moscow near three major railway stations, emergency services said.

The fire broke out in the afternoon, but could not be extinguished until the evening.

“Unfortunately, during the inspection of the debris, five dead were found and one person was injured,” said the rescue services of the Russian capital on Sunday evening.

The Russian Investigation Committee reported an “undetermined number of victims” and attributed the tragedy to a “violation of fire standards”.

The Russian press agencies evoked them up to seven dead.

Accidental fires are frequent in Russia, often due to outdated equipment or non-compliance with safety standards.
