The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, said he was “enthusiastic” to receive requests from countries interested in hosting the 2025 African Cup of Nations (CAN), saying that he “welcomes” the presentation by Morocco of its request and that the objective is “to organize the best competition in Africa”.
“Morocco has often hosted large-scale competitions and has sometimes been the only country to host a new competition. I am very grateful to Morocco for this”Motsepe said in a statement to the press upon his arrival at Salé airport.
The President of CAF also said ” delighted “ to visit Morocco again, a country that has “a deep commitment” to develop football in the Kingdom and in Africa as a whole.
He thus noted that he always feels gratitude in noting the support provided by Morocco to many African countries and its contribution to the development of football in the continent.
Motsepe insisted that football must above all be “a way to bring people together and forge links between all our countries, because the round ball is our passion”.
In this sense, he expressed the firm commitment to work in favor of relations based on trust in the various African countries.
In addition, the CAF President expressed his pride in the significant investments made in many African countries, including Morocco, believing that these investments will bear fruit.
On the other hand, Motsepe praised the level reached by women’s football in Africa, which he said is progressing every year, recalling that the last time he was in Morocco, a new attendance record for a women’s match was was recorded during the Morocco-Nigeria match as part of the Women’s CAN 2022.
The CAF president will attend the final of the African Women’s Champions League which will pit AS FAR against Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) on Sunday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah sports complex in Rabat.
