Morocco aims to double its British tourists by 2027

The Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and the Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, said Monday in London that Morocco aims to double the number of tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom by to 2027.

According to the minister, Moroccan participation in the World Travel Market (WTM) fair, which is being held from November 7 to 9 in the British capital, is “extremely important” since it is taking place in a recovery phase.

Morocco rebounded well after the pandemic and managed to recover more than 76% of tourist arrivals and more than 100% of tourist receipts.

While it is one of the most important fairs in the world, “Morocco had to have a sizeable presence, in line with its potential”, she said, adding that it is for this reason that several tour operators and representatives of the regions made the trip.

At a time when Europe, with Spain and France, is the main source market for Morocco, England is now a large market, which represents nearly 600,000 arrivals and more than two million overnight stays per year, she explained.

England is therefore our third market in terms of tourists and the second in terms of overnight stays, detailed the minister.

“Our long-term objective is to double the number of tourists visiting Morocco by 2030,” she said, adding that on the British market in particular, “the goal is to double the number of tourists in the next four years”.

This show, she argued, is therefore the ideal opportunity to meet the main tour operators, airlines and all the major players in the tourism sector, with a view to implementing concrete plans to double this volume. .

In the midst of some 3,500 exhibitors, the stand of the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) occupies a prominent place with around thirty tour operators, Royal Air Maroc, representatives of regional tourism councils from several regions of the Kingdom and the National Confederation of Tourism (CNT).

The stand, which enjoys significant visibility, offers diversified entertainment, an immersive digital space, a screening of the film from the “Morocco Kingdom Of Light” campaign, a corner dedicated to Arabic calligraphy and experiences that are both musical and culinary.

It should be noted that the WTM brings together, each year, the world travel community by offering the various players in the industry the opportunity to meet and promote their services and destinations. It welcomes exhibitors from different sectors, including hotels, airlines, travel technologies, etc.

In 2019, the WTM welcomed 4,690 exhibitors, more than 33,000 visitors and more than 5,400 buyers
trips.
