The National Airports Office (ONDA) indicated that the airports of the Kingdom welcomed 16,546,802 passengers during the first ten months of this year, representing a recovery rate of 79% compared to the same period in 2019.
A press release from the Office indicates that “for cumulative air traffic from January to the end of October 2022, Morocco’s airports continue to show improved recovery rates compared to the same period of 2019, welcoming 79% of passengers. and 81% of airport movements, i.e. respectively 16,546,802 passengers and 142,284 airport movements for all airports”.
For the month of October alone, adds ONDA, the airports recorded a volume of commercial traffic of 2,191,055 passengers and 16,845 airport movements, i.e. recovery rates, respectively, of 101% and 94% compared to the same period of 2019.
In detail, Casablanca Mohammed V airport, the first airport platform in the Kingdom, welcomed 759,360 passengers during this month of October through 6,084 flights. This traffic represents 90% of passenger air traffic and 80% of airport movements recorded during the month of October 2019.
Regarding cumulative air traffic since the beginning of 2022, Casablanca Mohammed V airport has welcomed 6,176,926 passengers via 54,714 flights, i.e. a recovery rate of around 71% for each of the segments compared to the same period of 2019.
During the month of October 2022, several airports reached or even exceeded the volume of air passenger traffic recorded during the same period of 2019.
The recovery is consolidated during the first ten months for the airports of the North and Oriental regions which recorded recovery rates greater than or equal to 100% compared to the same period of 2019 (Tétouan: 398%, Oujda: 120%, Nador: 110%, Tangier: 104%).
Similarly, Guelmim airport recorded a recovery rate of around 140% of passenger traffic recorded during the same period of 2019.
With 221,012 passengers welcomed during the month of October 2022, domestic air traffic recorded a recovery rate of 81% compared to the same period of 2019. This rate is 70% for the period from January to the end of October with 1,756,717 passengers welcomed.
International air traffic recorded 1,970,043 passengers during the month of October, representing a recovery rate of 104% compared to the same period of 2019.
For cumulative international traffic since the beginning of 2022, the Kingdom’s airports have welcomed 14,790,085 passengers, representing a recovery rate of 80% compared to the same period of 2019.
The markets of Europe, the Middle and Far East, North America and Africa recorded, in October, recovery rates above 100%. Europe, which accounts for more than 84% of international air traffic, recorded a recovery rate of 107% compared to October 2019.
During this month of October, there were 16,845 airport movements, compared to 17,908 movements recorded during the same period of 2019, representing a recovery rate of 94%.
Air freight recorded during this month of October 2022 a recovery rate of 66% compared to the same period of 2019. It stood at 5,525 tonnes. For the cumulative freight from January to the end of October, there were 57,893 tons, representing a recovery rate of 74%.
