Marrakech: Kick-off of the 19th edition of the FIFM

The 19th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM), placed under the high patronage of King Mohammed VI, opened on Friday evening at the Palais des Congrès in the Ocher City, in person after two years of interruption for cause. of Covid.

The ceremony took place in the presence of an audience of national and international 7th Art stars and eminent figures and personalities from the worlds of culture, media and the arts.

The highlight of this opening, marked by the reunion of moviegoers from various walks of life, is as usual, the Red Carpet which saw cinema icons parade, acclaimed by the crowd, who came in large numbers to reconnect with this artistic event of choice.

For Rémi Bonhomme, artistic director of the FIFM, “this nineteenth edition marks the reunion of the Festival with the public, but also with artists and professionals from all over the world who are impatient to come and present their films in Marrakech. The return of the Festival pursues several objectives”.

“After two delicate years for the national film industry, its role is to contribute to the return of the public to cinemas and to offer a launching platform for Moroccan films. The Festival also contributes to the influence of Morocco internationally by transforming the ocher city, for ten days, into a great celebration of world cinema,” he adds.

It should be noted that the jury of this 19th edition of the FIFM, chaired by the Italian Paolo Sorrentino, includes the American-Guatemalan actor and producer Oscar Isaac, the British actress Vanessa Kirby, the German actress Diane Kruger, the Australian director Justin Kurzel, Lebanese director and actress Nadine Labaki, Moroccan director Laïla Marrakchi and French actor Tahar Rahim.
