Launch of the 1st regional meeting for the implementation of an Arab strategy

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad launched, on Thursday, the work of the first regional meeting on the development of an implementation plan for the Arab regional strategy. of combating terrorism.

The two-day meeting, which was approved last March by the Council of Arab Ministers of the Interior, represents an opportunity for the participating countries to study the measures aimed at preventing and combating terrorism which are fall within the framework of the executive plan of the Arab regional strategy and discuss various points, in this case the fight against the use of the Internet for the plotting of terrorist acts, the fight against the phenomenon of foreign terrorist fighters, the strengthening security, the protection of vital structures and targets, and the promotion of international cooperation in criminal matters.

It will also address plans for strengthening and developing the capacities of Member States in the field of counter-terrorism at the national, Arab and international levels, represented in the organization of training courses, workshops and scientific seminars, and the creation of joint commissions specializing in the fight against terrorism.

Other topics will be on the discussion table of the Arab Ministers, in particular the development and strengthening of the capacities of Member States in the field of the fight against terrorism at the national, Arab and international levels, through the organization of training, in addition to scientific workshops and seminars, as well as the creation of joint commissions specializing in the fight against terrorism.

According to the ministry statement, the meeting was organized by the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of the Interior and the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Center.

The work will be attended by representatives of ministries from 15 Arab countries members of the League of Arab States, namely the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Bahrain, Egypt, the Sultanate of Oman, the Republic of Djibouti, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Libya, the Republic of Sudan, the Federal Republic of Somalia, Palestine, Kuwait, Lebanon and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, as well as representatives of the University Arab Naïf of Security Sciences, the Arab Office for Countering Extremism and Terrorism and the United Nations Office for Counter-Terrorism.

This event, organized after almost a month of the holding of the last Arab Summit in Algeria, reinforces and implements the resolutions proposed by the Member States of the Arab League, noting that the choice of Morocco as the host country of the regional meeting is a proof of well-deserved trust and respect, especially since the Kingdom has been able to achieve very remarkable results in terms of the fight against terrorism.

In this sense, the representatives and officials of the Arab countries have welcomed the decision to grant Morocco the opportunity to host this high-level meeting and of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Program and the Africa Training Office, which was inaugurated in June 2021, and which aims to implement all the approved programs that relate in particular to the development and strengthening of capacities and skills on the ground in the fight against terrorism as a global challenge.

They have also set the objective of managing and securing borders, investigation and monitoring, managing prisons, disengagement, rehabilitation and integration.
