Immersion in the heart of an industry in full transformation

The media sector, all categories combined, has undergone a real revolution which has made traditional concepts become outdated and irrelevant. The digital transformation has opened up new perspectives and made it possible to develop new formats, in particular social media, which have ultimately reshaped the media landscape on a global scale.

Over the past decades, the United Arab Emirates has been able to develop a media system that has become at the forefront of regional and global scenes and a catalyst for achieving development and spreading the values ​​of tolerance, coexistence and peace.

And it is with this in mind that the Emirates are organizing from November 15 to 17, 2022 in Abu Dhabi, the first edition of the Global Media Congress (GMC).

This major event, initiated under the patronage of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, by the ADNEC group, leader in events, in partnership with Emirates News Agency (WAM), opened on Tuesday under the theme “Shaping the future of the media industry”.

In a speech for the occasion, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, affirmed that “The UAE has managed to reach the world through its influential national media system that brings together creativity, innovation and cutting-edge technology to create reliable, high-quality media content.”

His message to the participants, read on his behalf by Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, CEO of WAM, stresses that “The GMC, which brings together media leaders, experts and industry professionals, is the culmination of the UAE’s efforts to create an exceptional environment characterized by flexibility and competitiveness and based on an advanced digital infrastructure.”

This in turn solidifies its position as a global hub and destination that welcomes talent, creators and influencers in the field of media and social communication, especially in light of rapid change and digital transformation.”he added.

The opening ceremony of the GMC, attended by no less than 15 ministers and 35 ambassadors from different countries, was also marked by an intervention by Shamma bint Suhail Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of State for Youth Affairs, but also the first metaverse media interview.

The program of the World Media Congress includes, among other events, a conference and an exhibition, which provide an inspiring platform to learn more about the media industry and realize a forward-looking vision for the future of the sector, which has become a key and major player in sustainable development.

One exhibition, 42 countries, 193 exhibitors

On the sidelines of the first edition of the Global Media Congress, an exhibition was launched with large-scale international participation, which offers an ideal opportunity to see the latest modern services, products and technologies applied in the media and culture sectors.

The dedicated pavilions welcome more than 193 exhibiting companies from more than 42 countries, in addition to approximately 8,000 participants, in a tremendous opportunity for the various stakeholders from all over the region to network, exchange and present their products and services, including broadcasting, content production, modern technologies, equipment and devices.

Note that the CMG attracts more than 200 CEOs and includes more than 30 dialogue sessions and more than 40 workshops, which will be attended by more than 162 leading international speakers. It also includes a number of events held for the first time in the Middle East, including the Global Buyers program, which offers an exceptional platform to bring together the most important buyers and suppliers from around the world to showcase the best technologies, services and knowledge in the media sector.

In addition, six major initiatives will be presented on the occasion. These are the Live Shows platform, the global program for the empowerment of young media professionals, the Future Media Lab, the innovation platform, the Global Buyers program and a special session on the role of media in building of a culture of tolerance in human societies.
