Customs: The MEF denies any strengthening of customs control on gifts and personal effects

The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) on Sunday refuted “categorically” the “unfounded” allegations that the Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxes (ADII) has tightened control over gifts and personal effects belonging to Moroccan travelers, including Moroccans from around the world, when they arrive on the national territory.

In a clarification, in reaction to information relayed by certain press organs, relating to the tolerances granted to travellers, the ministry affirms that “customs regulations have not undergone any change and that customs control in no way concerns gifts and personal effects brought back by Moroccan travellers, including Moroccans from around the world”.

The Ministry recalls, in this regard, that the ADII spares no effort to facilitate and smooth the passage of Moroccans through the various border posts in application of royal instructions and specifies that the intervention of Customs only concerns goods which a purely commercial nature.
