a remake of the Liverpool-Real Madrid final from the eighth round, PSG-Bayern shock

A remake of the last final between Liverpool and Real Madrid, a shock Paris SG – Bayern Munich: the draw for the knockout stages of the Champions League offered two major duels between European behemoths, Monday in Nyon (Switzerland).

After their 1-0 victory last season against the Reds at the Stade de France near Paris, the people of Madrid are already finding the men of Jürgen Klopp, absent from the hat of the seeds after their second place in the group stage.

Mohamed Salah and his troops will host Ballon d’Or partners Karim Benzema on February 14-15 or 21-22, before traveling to Spain on March 7-8 or 14-15.

Overtaken by Naples in Group A, Liverpool can blame themselves for having let slip the first place with the particular difference.

Another scarecrow of hat N.2, PSG will have the same feeling at the end of this draw. Doubled by Benfica in the number of away goals, the 7th deciding criterion, the Parisians find Bayern in the eighth.

It will also be a reunion after the final won by the Bavarians 1-0 in 2020 during the “Final 8” in Lisbon, in the midst of a pandemic. But also after the quarter-final of the following edition, which had seen the qualification of PSG (3-2 in Munich, 0-1 in Paris).

After losing against Real in the 8th round last season, the PSG of Kylian Mbappé, Neymar and Lionel Messi will still have to whip to finally win their first C1.

Also in search of a first title, Manchester City inherits RB Leipzig, for a duel between the Norwegian “cyborg” Erling Haaland and the best player of the last Bundesliga, the Frenchman Christopher Nkunku.

AC Milan will challenge Tottenham, while Dortmund will face Chelsea. The two Portuguese clubs can hope to see the quarters: Porto has indeed inherited Inter Milan, while Benfica is opposed to Petit Poucet, Club Brugge.

Finally, Frankfurt, winner of the Europa League, will find Naples, one of the teams in form at the start of the season.
