a Barça / Manchester United clash in the play-offs for the 8th

The draw for the play-offs for the knockout stages of the Europa League on Monday gave rise to a clash of behemoths between FC Barcelona and Manchester United.

Returned to C3 after a calamitous Champions League campaign, Barça will challenge Manchester on Thursday February 16 and 23, with the return match in England.

Another early European elimination would be a snub for the Catalans and their coach Xavi, already unable to beat Bayern Munich and Inter Milan in four confrontations, but also defeated in the clasico against Real Madrid, 3-1 in mid-October.

The Red Devils have to go through this accession barrage because of their second place in the group stage of C3, overtaken on goal difference by Real Sociedad.

Winner of the Europa League Conference last season, AS Roma inherited Salzburg, while Juventus will face one of the three French clubs present at this stage, FC Nantes.

Sevilla FC will challenge PSV Eindhoven, while Shakhtar Donetsk will try to secure a European future against Rennes.

Bayer Leverkusen, overtaken in C1 by Porto and Club Brugge, but 3rd in the group ahead of Atlético Madrid, will face Monaco in a balanced duel.
