USA: YouTube wants to certify doctors' accounts

Online video giant YouTube has announced that it intends to certify accounts of doctors and other caregivers so that it can highlight reliable videos on health, a way of trying to limit misinformation on these subjects.

The change should allow users to immediately recognize quality videos on health issues, said the subsidiary of Alphabet (Google).

It should also help users “find and interact with content” created by caregivers on the platform, Garth Graham, a YouTube manager, wrote in a blog post.

The certification process, which will include verification of diplomas, will also be open to mental health professionals and institutions.

With the Covid-19 pandemic, a lot of false or misleading information about the disease and vaccines had been disseminated on the internet.
