China: Xi Jinping reappointed as head of the Communist Party's Central Committee

Xi Jinping was elected general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee at the committee’s first plenary session held on Sunday.

The session, chaired by Xi, was attended by 203 members of the CPC Central Committee and 168 alternate members, said a statement, adding that Xi Jinping, whose third term as head of the CPC, was also named chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission during this session, which comes the day after the closing of the 20th CPC Congress on Saturday in Beijing.

The members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee elected at Sunday’s session are: Xi Jinping, Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang and Li Xi. The session also proceeded to appoint the members of the Central Military Commission.
