The Security Council moves towards the Moroccan autonomy initiative

UN Security Council (SC) Resolution 2654, voted on Thursday, October 27, 2022 by 13 votes in favor and two abstentions (Russia and Kenya), extended the mandate of MINURSO until the end of October 2023.

This resolution of the CS comes like its predecessors since 2007, to confirm “the preeminence, credibility and seriousness of the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the one and only solution to this regional dispute within the framework of the sovereignty and integrity of the Kingdomsaid Omar Hilale during a press conference held following the adoption by the CS of this resolution 2654.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, for its part, welcomed in a press release, “The adoption of this resolution comes in a context marked by the significant breakthroughs made, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, in the file over the past few years”, underlines the ministry in a press release, following the adoption of the resolution. 2654 of the UN Security Council on the question of the Moroccan Sahara“.

In the story of the “Laughing Jean” and the “Crying Other” there is obviously the Polisario, which as soon as the result was known, while once again refusing the process of the round tables, provided itself in a long press release and denounced “the continuing inaction of the Security Council in the face of aggressive and persistent attemptsand we’ll let you guess the rest. Yet separatists like them howled in their post-coup statement to anyone who would listen that the CS resolution “left no choice for the Sahrawi people but to continue and intensify their legitimate armed struggle to defend their inalienable and non-negotiable right to self-determination and independence“.

MoroccoLatestNews Fr called on the specialist in the matter, Mohamed Talib, member of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS) who will immediately launch, “There is no going back in theSecurity Council resolutions. The latter goes in the direction of the straight line positioned in this since 2007 and he is heading towards the consecration of the credibility of the Moroccan position and proposal of autonomy“.

And to declareIt’s positive at all! The responsibility of Algeria was again raised. Her involvement as well as that of her offspring in the round table process that she recently rejected is once again imposed. The ceasefire was not mentioned, thus classifying the separatists’ whining as insignificant. We would have liked France to comment on its vote in our favor and to explain why, unfortunately it remained silent. It is probably so as not to offend Algeria”.

Mohamed Talib will continue by specifying the recommendations of the Security Council, including that of the census in the Tindouf camps, to which Algeria has always opposed, which “will have to be relaunched, no offense to him“.
