The Casablanca-Settat region accounts for more than 34% of business creations in 2021

The Casablanca-Settat region recorded the largest share of new legal entity business creations (PM), i.e. 34.4% in 2021, marking a slight decline of 0.6 points compared to the previous year, according to the Moroccan Observatory of Very Small and Medium Enterprises (OMTPME).

This region is followed by those of Rabat-Salé-Kenitra and Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima which recorded shares of 14.6% and 11.2% respectively, according to the OMTPME 2020 annual report. 2021. For its part, the distribution of business creations by section of activity shows that the section “Trade, repair of automobiles and motorcycles” represents a share of 29.6%, down 0.2 points compared to to 2019, continues the Observatory, which notes that this is followed by the “Construction” and “Transport and storage” sections, with shares established at 19% and 11.2% respectively.

For “Administrative and support service activities” and “Specialized, scientific and technical activities”, the proportions of creations amount to 7.3% and 7% respectively, adds the same source.

As for the distribution of PM business creations according to their legal form, SARLs represented 43.8% of total creations in 2021, marking an increase of 3.4 points over a rolling year. On the other hand, the share of the sole-shareholder limited liability company showed a decline of 3.2 points, or 55.7%.

With regard to business dissolutions, the report observes that after the drop in business dissolutions in 2020 compared to 2019, linked to the closure of courts due to the pandemic crisis, the year 2021 saw an increase in the number companies being dissolved by 52.2% to 8,284.

This third edition also devotes a chapter to the evolution of employment in this unprecedented context. It is also enriched by indicators on auto-entrepreneurs as well as by the results of a study on female entrepreneurship.
