The Casablanca International Marathon is making a comeback for its 13th edition scheduled for Sunday, October 30, after a long absence due to Covid-19.
“A historic site, the Mohammed V complex or even “DONOR” will be the starting point and the end line of the course offered this year. More than a marathon, the route is also a chance for runners to discover the metropolis”, indicates a press release from the organizers.
The MIC, continues the document, “is designed so that one can grasp the charm of effervescent Casablanca, through its various arteries, starting with Boulevard Ghandi, Boulevard de l’Océan Pacifique, passing through the Route Sidi Abderrahman, towards the Boulevard de l’Océan Atlantique, the Boulevard de la Corniche, the Boulevard Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah and the Avenue des FAR or even Avenue Pasteur which is the return point to the track of the Complex Mohammed V”.
This is, we add, “a way to see the medina, one of the latest in Morocco, cross the center and its art-deco buildings, and reach the Hassan II mosque, a marvel architecture built on water”.
The Casablanca International Marathon is the result of an institutional partnership between the Wilaya of the Casablanca-Settat region, the municipality of Casablanca with, in particular, the Royal Moroccan Athletics Federation through the Athletics League of Casablanca and the local development company, Casablanca Events & Animation, for the organization of an event with international standards and the promotion of the values advocated by sport, namely sharing, respect, tolerance and better living together.
Like the 12th edition, the event offers 3 major events this year: the 42 km Marathon, the 21 km Half-Marathon and the 10 km Relay Race which is more accessible. The latter, a novelty since 2017, is presented as a reference distance to introduce as many people as possible, professionals and amateurs, to a 100% urban course.
Young runners will also have their say through the “Kids Run”, a way for young people aged 6 to 14 to have fun, to reveal their talents and abilities on the race circuit of the Mohammed V stadium on Saturday 29 October, the very place where Saïd Aouita, Hicham El Guerrouj or Nawal Moutawakil showed the extent of their talents. Enough to bring out many vocations and forge memorable memories, to the applause and encouragement of parents who make the trip to admire the future champions.
Registration for the Casablanca International Marathon 2022 is open on the wecasablanca.com/marathon platform and on the “Casa Marathon” application available free of charge on the Play Store and the AppStore.
From October 21, 2022, the esplanade of the emblematic “DONOR” will host the marathon village to receive participants who wish to obtain information, register or collect their Participant Kit, adds the press release.
The local development company Casablanca Events et Animation (CEA), created in 2015, has the mission of developing and implementing the territory’s overall attractiveness strategy at the local, regional and international levels.
To do this, Casablanca Events and Animation deploys structuring projects, manages the sports and cultural infrastructures entrusted to it and organizes major events in the cultural, sports and economic fields.
