Morocco and Germany strengthen cooperation in the fight against terrorism and cross-border extremism

Morocco and Germany have agreed to strengthen their operational cooperation in the fight against terrorism and cross-border extremism, as well as against cross-border and organized crime, including drug trafficking, illegal migration and migrant smuggling , human trafficking, cybercrime and document fraud.

This bilateral operational cooperation is based, in accordance with the national legislations of the two countries, on the exchange of good practices and mechanisms allowing the early detection and identification of the paths of extremism and recruitment, as well as the movement of combatants in the ranks. terrorist organizations, said a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), following the meeting of a joint security committee.

This joint committee was created following the common desire to contribute to the strengthening of cooperation in various security areas in order to improve the security of the two countries and their citizens, notes the press release, indicating that this committee was created for the implementation of the recommendations discussed during the meeting between the Moroccan Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN/DGST) and the President of the German Federal Police (Bundespolizeipräsidium), on June 10, 2022 in the Kingdom of Morocco .

This joint security committee is made up of the International Police Cooperation Center at the DGSN and Liaison Officers assigned to the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Rabat, according to the same source.

During this meeting, it was added, it was agreed that it is important and necessary to strengthen cooperation in terms of technical assistance, in particular the transfer of technology and police equipment, in order to develop expertise through the through training aimed at improving the knowledge and skills of police officers in various security areas, among others, forensics, technical and scientific police, border posts, close security, cavalry and canine police, etc. .

The two parties agreed, with the firm conviction and determination to move forward, to strengthen and develop these areas of cooperation in the future, in accordance with the aspirations and commitments of common interest, and to protect against all threats to the security of both countries and their citizens, the statement concludes
