El Salvador reiterates its support for the autonomy initiative

The Republic of El Salvador reiterated its support for Morocco’s efforts to achieve a realistic, pragmatic and lasting solution to the Sahara issue, within the framework of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, stressing that the autonomy initiative constitutes a step advanced and fundamental to these efforts.

A joint statement following a meeting held last Thursday in Rabat between El Salvador’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alexandra Hill, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, said that Ms. Hill reaffirmed her country’s support “for the efforts made by Morocco to reach a realistic, pragmatic and lasting solution to the Sahara issue, within the framework of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom”, by the sense that the autonomy initiative constitutes a “fundamental advance” in this direction.

The same source indicates that this meeting, which takes place within the framework of an official mission of the Salvadoran minister in Africa, was an opportunity for the two parties to examine the agenda of bilateral cooperation, adding that the two ministers reviewed the state of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which have been strengthened with the opening and inauguration of a diplomatic and consular representation of El Salvador in Rabat.

During these talks, the statement notes, the two ministers agreed to set, as soon as possible, a date for the holding of a second meeting of political consultations between El Salvador and Morocco.

This meeting was also an opportunity to shed light on the bilateral cooperation agenda, emphasizing the dynamics that have made it possible to record progress in a number of initiatives related to the health sectors, water, energy, tourism and crafts, among others, serving the interests of both countries.
