Aguerd could make his first official appearance for West Ham in C4

West Ham manager David Moyes has noted he is not ready to start Nayef Aguerd in the Premier League but could be in the squad for Thursday’s clash against Silkeborg in the Europa Conference League.

At the press conference ahead of the Silkeborg match, Moyes told reporters that the Moroccan international will not be selected for Sunday’s Premier League game, “but we hope to have him in the group against Silkeborg, one way or another”.

“What will he bring? I don’t want to ask too much of him. I want to give him time. But he has a good reading of the game. He is fast and he is good in the air, ”said the Scottish manager. “I don’t think he’s ready for the Premier League games, but we’ll see for those European games. He is enthusiastic and he has a good character. I have to say we think he is a very stylish footballer,” he continued. David Moyes is keen to see Aguerd return to form, and the Hammers boss believes he can offer real balance to the backline when fully operational.

“He will hopefully give us a natural left-handed balance in central defence. I see Nayef giving us something that we haven’t had,” he added.

“The Moroccan national team has been great. He did the entire first part of his rehabilitation with them. We are really looking forward to seeing him again. He’s an enthusiastic player who is on top in the locker room,” said Moyes. The centre-back hasn’t been available for the Hammers since sustaining a serious ankle injury in pre-season against Rangers. He could, however, make his first competitive appearance against the Danish side, potentially as a substitute.

A boon for the selection of Morocco which should be able to count on the services of Aguerd for the World Cup in Qatar from November 20 to December 18.
