Active legal entity companies (EPMA) generated a turnover (CA) of 1,602.8 billion dirhams (MMDH) in 2020, an annual decrease of 9.4%, according to the Moroccan Observatory of Very Small and medium-sized enterprise (OMTPME).
“It appears from the DGI database that the EPMAs, numbering 289,773, generated a turnover totaling 1,602.8 billion dirhams for the 2020 financial year, an annual decrease of 9.4%, of which 40.8% was was generated by VSMEs, compared to 40.4% in 2019”, indicates the Observatory in its annual report 2020-2021.
The analysis of the evolution of turnover between 2019 and 2020 by region shows, in particular, that the regions of Marrakech-Safi, Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima and Casablanca-Settat posted respective drops of 26, 4%, 15.8% and 13.3%.
According to the Observatory, the analysis of the evolution of EPMA turnover over the same period reveals that the “accommodation and catering” section showed the largest drop, i.e. 51.2%, followed by the “Arts, shows and recreational activities” and “Transportation and storage” with respective declines of 46.1% and 26.8%. As for the section “Human health and social action”, it marked a drop limited to 0.2%.
On the export side, the EPMAs generated a turnover of 294.5 billion dirhams for the 2020 financial year, showing a decline of 5.8%, the report said, noting that the TPMEs generated 26% of this turnover against 26 .3% in 2019.
By region, the evolution of export turnover between 2020 and 2019 shows that the regions of Marrakech-Safi, Béni Mellal-Khénifra, Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima and Casablanca-Settat suffered the most significant declines. i.e. 26%, 25%, 19% and 10%, respectively. As for the region of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, it marked an increase of 16.5% over the same period.
The sectoral analysis of the evolution of EPMA export turnover over the same period shows that the “Accommodation and catering” section showed a drop of 75%, followed by the “Production and distribution of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning” and “Transport and storage” with respective decreases of 67% and 47.4%, specifies the report. On the other hand, the sections of “Production and distribution of water, sanitation, waste management and depollution” and “Extractive industries” recorded respective increases of 23.7% and 2.5%.
